One major factor that contributes to a successful vaginal birth is the baby's position in the womb during pregnancy.  Many babies can still be born with a certain degree of misalignment, but a well-positioned baby can move through the birth canal during labor with minimum obstruction.

The Positional Therapy in Childbirth (PTiC) was developed by Kimm Sun in 2012 as a way to demystify and resolve fetal malposition. PTiC uses sensory awareness and the understanding of anatomy and the spatial relationship between the mother and the baby.  Using PTiC, we have drastically reduced the incidence of breech as well as posterior babies in our care.

How does PTiC work?  We begin with a home visit at 28 weeks.  This is the time when most babies begin to fill up the mother's abdominal and pelvic space, so your posture and daily activity will begin to affect the baby's position.  We visit your home and teach you about the ideal fetal position, and how your baby can enter the pelvis along the path of least resistance.

For example, if you sit in an office chair five days a week, we know that this could lead to a mis-alignment. So, we may make simple adjustments to the height of your chair and create the correct lumbar support.  You would also have acquired a birth ball that we have customized for your height. The key to the success of PTiC is that it's easy to understand, and facilitates a more comfortable pregnancy.  It is a fun, participatory experience, allowing you to feel more connect to your baby.
